Some local New Yorkers do spend New Year's Eve in Times Square. On Tuesday, Supreme Court justice and Bronx native Sonia Sotomayor will brave the crowds to lead the 60-second countdown and hit the button at the famous ball drop ceremony. More than 32,000 lights illuminate the ball at New York's annual ceremony, which is estimated to be watched by 1 billion people around the world.
