A fifth-grade student in South Carolina has died after being involved in a classroom fight earlier this week, The Greenville News reports. The 10-year-old child, identified by authorities as Raniya Wright, reportedly collapsed on Monday after the fight in a Forest Hills Elementary School classroom. When emergency services arrived, she was reportedly unconscious but breathing. She was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina but passed away on Wednesday, authorities said. It was not immediately clear what injuries, if any, she sustained during the fight, and no details were available on the circumstances surrounding the altercation. School officials have said another student has been suspended pending an investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine Wright’s cause of death. Raniya’s mother, who uses the name Ash Wright on Facebook, wrote a post after her daughter was hospitalized calling for an end to bullying. On Wednesday, she announced her daughter’s death: “As of 9:39 my baby girl has gain (sic) her wings.”
