A 45-year-old woman was killed in an alligator attack on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, while she was walking her dog Monday morning, The Island Packet reports. Cassandra Cline was walking her dog “very near” the edge of a lagoon on Wood Duck Road in Sea Pines Plantation when the alligator caught the dog's leash in its jaws at around 9:30 a.m., South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Regional Coordinator Sam Chappelear said during a news conference. “There was some sort of tug-of-war with her trying to get the dog back via the leash, and in turn, the alligator drug her and the dog into the water,” Chappelear said. Officals said the 9-foot-long alligator believed to be involved in the attack was caught and euthanized. The dog was not harmed by the incident. This comes as a Florida woman was also killed in an alligator attack while walking her dogs in June. The 12-foot, 6-inch alligator behind the June attack was eventually caught and “destroyed.”
