South Korea announced that it will cancel its live-fire artillery drills scheduled for Tuesday—even after the military already warned residents on Yeongpyeong Island to move to bomb shelters. The exercise was to take place on the island in the Yellow Sea and was supposed to show military muscle to North Korea after their artillery attack last week, which killed two South Korean marines and two civilians. While the island is now equipped with rocket launchers and artillery guns as well as South Korean and U.S. military forces 125 miles away, the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the media that the drills will be delayed until “an appropriate time.”
