Spanish Police Fire Rubber Bullets, Raid Polling Place in Catalonia Independence Vote
Spanish police officials sought to block an independence referendum in Catalonia on Sunday, storming a polling place and injuring more than 750 people. According to Reuters, the officers broke glass windows as voters sang the Catalan anthem with their fists raised. Separately, police reportedly used rubber bullets in central Barcelona. The Spanish government does not view the referendum as legitimate, and has sought to shut down various polling places.
