‘Spotlight’ Wins Best Picture; Leo Gets First Oscar

Journalism drama Spotlight scored Best Picture as well as Best Original Screenplay at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night, besting favorite The Revenant for the top award. The revenge epic’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, won Best Actor in his sixth nomination. The movie also landed Alejandro G. Iñárritu his second consecutive win for best director. Actress Brie Larson took home Best Actress for Room ,while Sam Smith’s “Writing on the Wall” from the Bond film Spectre won Best Original Song. Mark Rylance accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Bridge of Spies while Alicia Vikander scored Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl. Mad Max: Fury Road was an early winner with six awards for costume design, production design, editing, sound editing, sound mixing and makeup and hairstyling.
