St. Louis Cardinals Manager Retires

Quit when you’re ahead? Two days after his third World Series win in a thrilling matchup with the Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa announced his retirement Monday. “There isn’t one [factor] that dominates [my decision]. They all just come together telling you your time is over,” La Russa, 67, explained at a press conference. Major League’s third-winningest manager decided back in August that he would retire at the end of the season, but waited to tell his coaching staff until Saturday after the World Series Game 7 victory.
