Can you say grande pumpkin globalization latte? In taking over the world news, Starbucks announced it is planning to open 1,500 additional cafés in the United States over the next five years, as part of a strategy to “deepen” its presence across the country. Just a few months back, the company said it would open just 1,000 more cafés across the country, but CEO Howard Schultz said the U.S. expansion plans are based “on the current strength of our business.” The company also expects to have more than 20,000 cafés by 2014, up from 18,000 now. Much of the global growth will come in China, which will pass Canada as the company’s second-biggest market.
