The stepmother of a 10-year-old cancer survivor who went missing in early October was charged with murder on Monday. Police claim that Elise Baker wrote a bogus $1 million ransom note hours before she and her husband reported their disabled daughter was missing. Young Zahra Baker's remains—including her prosthetic leg—were found dismembered and scattered near her North Carolina home in early November. Police maintain Elise Baker led them to a trail of the remains. According to reports from the Associated Press, Baker has a troubled past and has spent much of her adult life evading the law.
