The stock market plunged seven percent on Friday, capping off the worst week for the markets since 2011, according to the Associated Press. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 6.8 percent this week, while the S&P 500 index dipped 7 percent. According to reports, the Federal Reserve’s rate hike earlier this week coupled with fears over a government shutdown prompted the markets to take a tumble.
