A student filed a lawsuit against Columbia University Thursday, alleging the school failed to protect him from harassment after a female student spoke publicly about a rape claim he was cleared of by university officials and police. German citizen Paul Nungesser said his onetime friend Emma Sulkowicz has publicly accused him of being a "serial rapist," sparking international media attention and inciting threats from other students. "Columbia University's effective sponsorship of the gender-based harassment and defamation of Paul resulted in an intimidating, hostile, demeaning ... learning and living environment," the lawsuit said. A Columbia spokesman said the school had no comment regarding the suit.
