A suicide bomber struck outside of a major U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Wednesday. The vehicle driven by the suicide bomber exploded at the gate to Camp Chapman, killing the guard, two civilians, and the assailant. A spokesman for the Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the attack, said that the bombing targeted Afghan police and Afghans who worked for Americans entering the base. He also claimed to have inflicted high casualties. There has been a surge in insider attacks this year against foreign military and civilian personnel and over 50 Afghan members of the government’s security forces have died in insider attacks.
