A Manhattan theater was evacuated over a gun threat Tuesday evening during a screening of the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly. Patrons were reported to be escorted out of NeueHouse Madison Square just after 8:30 p.m. following two phone calls to the venue from an unidentified person who said someone had a gun in the theater. #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, and four R. Kelly accusers—Kitti Jones, Jerhonda Pace, Lisa Van Allen, and Asante McGee—were about to share their personal stories on stage when word of the threat spread. “So...Y’ALL ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!” Burke tweeted moments after officials announced the evacuation. “Tonight was a private screening of the @lifetimetv documentary #survivingRkelly where his survivors, parents of survivors, and folks featured in the doc were gathered and a BOMB THREAT was called in and the event shut down. #muteRkelly.” The award-winning R&B singer has faced mounting sexual abuse and misconduct allegations by numerous women in recent months, though Kelly has denied the claims.
