Virginia State Police said Saturday a suspect was in custody after a special agent was fatally shot late Friday. The suspect was identified as Travis A. Ball of Richmond, who is being held without bond. Virginia State Police Special Agent Michael T. Walter died early Saturday after allegedly being shot by Ball at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. While on patrol with a Richmond police officer, Walter had approached Ball’s vehicle, which was parked on the wrong side of the street. After a brief conversation between police and the vehicle’s passengers, Ball allegedly fired at Walter and fled, triggering an overnight manhunt. He faces charges that include malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with additional charges pending.
