Police have arrested and identified a man suspected of murdering an imam and his friend after they left a New York mosque on Saturday afternoon. Oscar Morel, 35, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Officials said Morel shot both 55-year-old Imam Alauddin Akonjee and 65-year-old Thara Uddin in the back of the head, killing them. Police found a revolver at Morel’s home, in addition to clothes that appear to be those worn in a surveillance video that captured the suspected gunman, officials said Monday night. A senior NYPD cop called Morel “a psycho” after seeing video of the suspect allegedly hitting a bicyclist with his SUV just minutes before the shooting.
