Suspected Iranian Assassin Targeting Former Trump Admin Officials: Report
MANHUNT
The FBI is searching for an Iranian spy it believes has been plotting to assassinate senior Trump Administration officials, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former special envoy to Iran, Brian Hook. The FBI’s Miami field office sent out an alert on Friday seeking information on Majid Dastjani Farahani, who the bureau believes is organizing the plots “as revenge” for the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian military commander, in a strike ordered by Donald Trump. Over the past few years, the Department of Justice has indicted multiple Iranian agents for various alleged assassination plots, whose targets range from Iranian dissidents living in Maryland to former national security adviser John Bolton. The DOJ is also investigating whether the man who stabbed writer Salman Rushdie in 2022 in New York was acting on the orders of the Iranian government, who have had a bounty on Rushdie’s head since 1989. U.S.-Iranian relations have always been tense, but a killing on U.S. soil by an Iranian agent would likely seriously escalate the situation.
