An 18-year-old man suspected of involvement with the MS-13 street gang is accused of raping an 11-year-old girl after sneaking in through her second-floor bedroom window in Brooklyn. The suspect, Julio C. Ayala, was arraigned over the charges in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sunday and held on $500,000 bail. He is charged with rape, burglary, criminal sex act, sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child. Family members were reportedly alerted to the alleged rape on Wednesday after hearing the girl scream. They called 911 just as the suspect fled out the window. Ayala was apprehended over the weekend after police released surveillance footage to the public in a bid to find the alleged rapist. He was reportedly surrounded by an angry mob as well as police after trying to hide at a building construction site. “He wasn’t actually coming out because the mob was angry, so the cops tried to protect him and shield him,” Vallan Peters, a witness, told The New York Times.
