Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi met Wednesday with outgoing President Thein Sein, three weeks after her opposition party swept parliamentary elections. The Nobel Peace laureate is also scheduled to meet the military’s commander in chief, Min Aung Hlaing. The meeting was the first high-level talks between the leaders since the National League of Democracy (NLD) won elections on Nov. 8. Suu Kyi’s closed-door session took place at Sein’s house in Naypyitaw and focused on transitioning power, the president’s spokesman and information minister said. The new administration will be sworn in early next year, marking the first time that a democratically elected government will take office in Myanmar since 1960.
