Syria Clashes Continue During Ramadan

The first day of Ramadan in Syria was a bloody one: The Syrian government killed six protesters in Damascus early Tuesday after killing 24 around the country Monday and about 140 on Sunday. According to witnesses to the overnight attack, government trucks with mounted machine guns pulled into the neighborhood of Erbin and opened fire on protesters who took to the streets after ending Ramadan prayers. The Syrian government has said it is defending itself from “armed gangs” that are backed by foreign powers.
