As Secretary of State John Kerry lobbied U.S. allies to support a strike in Syria, the Syrian government shelled rebels just south of Damascus, activists claim. The shelling on Saturday reportedly claimed 16 lives, including 14 rebels, an adult civilian and a child. The activists, from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, also report heavy fighting continuing around the village of Maaloula.
