Pro-government protests in Syria took a violent anti-American turn today when an angry mob attacked the U.S. Embassy in Damascus. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to the Associated Press, the crowds caused damage, wrote disparaging graffiti on the building, and raised a Syrian flag above the compound. The graffiti referred to the American ambassador as a “dog.” Last week, American and French ambassadors visited Hama, the city that has been home to the most virulent anti-regime movement.
