The deal to evacuate civilians from the remaining rebel-held part of eastern Aleppo is back on, opposition fighters announced late Wednesday. Although the ceasefire has collapsed, evacuations are still planned to take place in the early hours of Thursday. The news comes as troops loyal to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and foreign militias under Iranian command continued to sweep into the city this week, recapturing the rebel stronghold and effectively squashing the Syrian revolution. Days of intense bombing and reported “door-to-door” killings of rebels, and those suspected to be aligned with them, has plagued the city and rendered it impossible to calculate the death toll.
