France and other opposition groups are demanding that a team of Arab League monitors that arrived in Syria, led by Sudanese General Mustafa Dabi, rush to the city of Homs immediately. The team of 50 observers and 10 Arab League officials will visit the city Tuesday and expect “to be able to move freely between hospital, prisons, and detention centers all over Syria.” Videos show bodies in the streets and buildings ravaged by explosions and sevveral neighborhoods reportedly have no water, electricity, or food. The team has arrived as activists reported 45 deaths around the country as a result of the crackdown, with at least 33 dead in Homs, where residents said Army tanks fired shells and mortars at antigovernment protesters on Monday.
