The bloodshed in Syria shows few signs of letting up: Government soldiers, snipers, and tanks have surrounded the suburb of Muadhamiya, west of Damascus, and witnesses report the sound of heavy gunfire. The government also cut off electricity and phone lines to the area, with one human-rights group calling the situation a "total siege." Meanwhile, a Syrian human-rights activist says the government is arresting hundreds of people in house-to-house raids. Foreign journalists have been denied entry into Syria as part of the crackdown.
