The Centers for Disease Control warned that home freezers may still contain meat that was part of the 36 million-pound recall earlier this week. The CDC spokesman said, “Ground turkey has a long shelf life. We’re urging people to check packaging on any ground turkey in their homes.” The recalled meat has use-by or freeze-by dates from late February through late August and amounts to 6 percent of annual U.S. ground turkey production. The tainted meat is blamed for 78 instances of salmonella, including one that resulted in a death.
