Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's violent crackdown on protests continues, with tanks entering the coastal city of Latakia as residents flee gunfire. Government gunmen entered another town near the border with Lebanon and arrested scores of residents. Yesterday tens of thousands of people took to the streets to call for Assad's death, a sign of the growing anger of the protest movement. Security forces killed at least 14 protesters.
