The Tate Britain announced the finalists for the prestigious Turner Prize, awarded to a British artist under 50 each year, on May 5. The nominees are: Susan Philipsz, who explores the relationship between structure and sound in her installations; Dexter Dalwood, a painter who focuses on portraits of famous writers and ominous landscapes; Angela de la Cruz, a painter and sculptor; and Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun of the Otolith Group, which produces documentary films. The five finalists will present their works at a Tate Britain exhibition, opening on October 4. The Turner Prize winner will be announced on December 6 and will be awarded approximately $38,000.
