The Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday granted a filing extension for taxpayers after its internal systems experienced technical problems on Tax Day. “We’ll make sure taxpayers have extensions once the system comes up to make sure they can use it, and it in no way impacts people paying their taxes,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said. “It was just a technical issue we’re working through.” The IRS’ “direct pay” online service was “temporarily unavailable” throughout much of the day on Tuesday.
