A gym teacher who took students to a closed ski slope in the French Alps, just before an avalanche crashed down on them Wednesday, is now facing manslaughter charges. Three people died, two of whom were students under his charge. Ten students were with him while visiting from a school in Lyon. A 16-year-old girl was found dead on the slope, and a 14-year-old boy died at a hospital. A Ukrainian skier, who was not with the group, also died. The physical-education teacher was still recovering Thursday from injuries after he was found unconscious with multiple broken bones. Two other students from the group were wounded, but all other members of the party are now safe. Prosecutors said the area has been closed because of a lack of snow, then later for a high risk of avalanche. The students and teacher bypassed both signs and a safety net to get to the area.
