Ted Cruz announced Wednesday that he will select former Hewlett-Packard CEO and failed presidential candidate Carly Fiorina as his running mate should the Republican Party nominate him. Fiorina endorsed Cruz on March 9 after withdrawing her own candidacy and has become a fixture on the Texas senator’s campaign trail. She flew to Indiana, where Cruz is scheduled to speak, on Wednesday morning, fueling further speculation that she will be his selection. “Carly has shattered glass ceilings," Cruz said of his potential running-mate, "she is also a women of deep principle."
The last person to announce a vice presidential pick prior to becoming the nominee was Ronald Reagan in 1976, who also attempted a contested convention against incumbent President Gerald Ford. He named Senator Richard Schweiker of Pennsylvania as his running mate before he ended up losing to Ford by more than 100 delegates.
