A Texas couple was found guilty of benefitting from the unpaid labor of an African girl they kept in their home for years, according to a report from the Dallas Morning News. Mohamed Toure and Denise Cros-Toure were convicted of harboring an alien, conspiracy to harbor an alien, and forcing her to perform unpaid labor for the couple’s benefit. As The Daily Beast previously reported, prosecutors accused the couple of bringing Djena Diallo, who was originally from Guinea, to Texas, where they forced her to cook, clean, and care for the couple’s other children. Meanwhile, they denied her educational opportunities that were given to their other children, and allegedly emotionally and physically abused her. Diallo escaped in 2016 with help from neighbors.
