A Texas police officer responding to a burglar alarm at a private residence was shot and killed by the homeowner, CBS7 reports. David Charles Wilson, 37, has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of Officer Nathan Hayden Heidelberg. According to an affidavit, Heidelberg and another officer responded to an alarm call Tuesday and found nothing out of the ordinary when they arrived at the home until they noticed that the front door was open. Shortly after Heidelberg announced his presence to anyone who may have been inside of the home, a gunshot reportedly rang out and Heidelberg was fatally wounded. According to the affidavit, a Texas Ranger interviewed the homeowner, identified as Wilson, who reportedly admitted that he was inside of the home and fired a handgun in Heidelberg’s direction. Authorities reportedly could not find evidence of anyone else firing a gun.
