Police said Wednesday that a Coppell, Texas, mayor, Jayne Peters, shot her 19-year-old daughter Corinne in the head before killing herself in an apparent murder-suicide. A Coppell city council member asked police to go to Peters' home after she failed to show up for a city council meeting Tuesday night, where they found a note on the door warning officers of what was inside the house. Additional notes were found inside the house with instructions for things such as caring for the pets, but no clues as to Peters' motive. Daughter Corinne was set to begin at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall. Patriarch Donald Peters died in January 2008, and friends said the women had a rocky relationship after his death.
