Texas State Representative Larry Taylor said he realized as soon as he said the words “don’t try to Jew them” on Thursday in front of the state’s legislative oversight committee that he’d said something stupid. Though the state-senate hopeful immediately noted, “that’s probably a bad term,” the other members present went on with the hearing without acknowledging the offensive comment. The committee may not have been bothered by the expression, but the Anti-Defamation League sure was, calling Taylor’s office and prompting a formal apology letter. Taylor has even gone to individual Jewish members of the state legislature to apologize to them personally.
