Thailand Bans Surrogacy for Foreigners

Thailand, which has been a cheaper alternative for parents seeking surrogate mothers, has prohibited the practice for foreign clients. This decision comes on the heels of a series of scandals, including an Australian couple that abandoned their baby after they discovered it had Down syndrome. Violation of the law, which went into effect on July 30, is punishable by as much as 10 years in prison.
