The 24 Apps on We Heart It CEO Ranah Edelin’s Home Screen

In the second iteration of a weekly feature called Home Screen (think Media Diet meets What’s in your bag), we asked We Heart It CEO Ranah Edelin to tell us all about the 24 apps on his iPhone’s home screen.

The Daily Beast

1. Photos: Easy access to recent and favorite photos

2. Camera: I still like to have this on my home screen even though it’s now easily accessible from the bottom slider

3. Yelp: I like to use it to find restaurant recommendations in new cities

4. Google Maps: So much better than Apple Maps for directions

5. Fitbit: One of my new year’s resolutions is to be more aware of my health, so I’ve now got data from my Fitbit scale and activity tracker flowing into here. TBD on whether it makes me healthier or just more aware of my unhealthy habits!

6. Stocks: Some people advise against checking stock prices daily but I can’t resist.

7. LinkedIn: Helpful for setting context before a business meeting

8. App Store: I find myself checking out new apps all the time so it made the home screen cut

9. 8tracks: Nice radio app from a friend’s company – much more variety than Pandora, I like the Electronica mixes the best

10. Rhapsody: I have a soft spot for Rhapsody since I was on the founding team and still use it everyday for my on-demand music fix. We called it the “Jukebox in the sky” back in the day, before everything was called a “cloud” service

11. Sonos: Rhapsody + iPhone + Sonos = the best home music experience

12. Evernote: My outsourced brain for task management and notes

13. Snapchat: A visual app popular with millennials that isn’t We Heart It? Gotta check it out

14. Calendar: I used to live in Japan where everyone and everything was on time so I check my calendar a lot

15. Pocket: My favorite offline reader. Best way to get caught up on all the stuff people send me or that I discover during the day but can’t read right then

16. Feedly: RSS reader in case my social sources aren’t catching enough news for me

17. Vine: Vine is a great time-filler and another great example of the power of constrained design to unleash creativity

18. Facebook: I’m not a teenager so I still use Facebook ;-)

19. We Heart It: I’m obviously biased but I think the world would be a better place if everyone got a regular dose of visual inspiration and expression from We Heart It. It’s addicting! It is in the optimal spot for my thumb for quick access.

20. Twitter: I check Twitter more than Facebook these days as the power of the Interest Graph really starts to show itself.

21. Phone: I still actually make calls on my phone every once in a while ;-)

22. Safari: To browse the Internets

23. Mail: Search is much better in the Gmail app but I hate the slow initial load so am sticking with Mail

24. Messages: Messaging apps are getting more and more popular but regular texting is still the default for a lot of people I know (like my parents!)
