With its plastic pumpkin centerpieces and frank discussions of evangelical faith, last night’s GOP debate may have been the most bizzare yet. But the buzz for the format was good: The Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky hails it is as the kind of public discussion the founding fathers would have applauded. “No stupid gotcha questions, six participants (no Mitt Romney or Jon Huntsman Jr.), and candidates actually speaking, on occasion, from their hearts about important moments in their lives.” The Daily Beast’s Jill Lawrence pulls out the night's awkward juxtapositions, including “lectures on values and morality by one candidate whom four women have accused of sexual harassment and another who has admitted to cheating on not one but two wives."
