It all ended Thursday night, offering the style set new wares to feast on in the coming season. For Fall/Winter 2013, designers presented dark tones and exaggerated silhouettes that were often inspired by far-flung locations. See the week’s best looks.

Oscar de la Renta’s collection exhibited his own signature design elements in addition to those of collaborator John Galliano. Their work comes together best in this hot pink ball gown—the nipped waist and shocking bright color is classic Galliano, while the overdose of femininity and neoclassical beading is inherently Oscar.

All eyes are on Jason Wu now that Michelle Obama’s repeatedly worn his designs to high-profile events in the past month. Using the opportunity, Wu showed a grown-up, more refined collection that included standout monochromatic looks like this peplum dress-jacket with a stiff white collar.

Alexander Wang’s last collection before heading overseas for a Balenciaga debut was a grown-up luxury take on the New York grit he’s served up since starting his line in 2007. This leather and fur coat—worn with matching fur gloves and knit booties—reflects an evolved elegance for the designer.

A trip to Marrakech, Morocco, inspired J.Crew’s Fall 2013 collection. The brand combined its own sensibilities (bright colors, classic silhouettes, heritage appeal) with the city’s vivid scenery (souks, mosques, age-old cafés). The blend appeared most balanced in this silk sweatpants ensemble, featuring a Moroccan tile-print jacket and a rhinestone baseball cap.

Thom Browne’s ode to red roses looked back into history: he used Victorian-era proportions throughout his entire demi-couture collection. Its first look (shown) gave off an entrancing vibe, resembling Miss Havisham’s sense of sedated glamour.

Rising label Creatures of the Wind (designed by Shane Gabier and Chris Peters) presented a mixed-media collection for Fall 2013. The look seen here was where their play on textures really shined: its leather skirt plays nicely with the designers’ modern update on a classic plaid blazer. The glitter boots (produced in collaboration with Tabitha Simmons) bring in a sense of youthful pizzazz.

The Row diverged from the monastic qualities of its previous two collections with fall offerings that were both sophisticated and slightly offbeat. Red ruffled mule heels lend a sense of irreverence to the sequined top and jacquard skirt shown at left.

Marc Jacobs may have showed his fall collection four days later than originally scheduled (owing to late fabric deliveries), but all was forgiven when his new wares materialized on the runway. It was a classic Jacobs collection, full of sportswear remastered with his signature quirks. Like the look at left: a gold lamé gown topped with a ’40s throwback (faux!) animal stole.

Joseph Altuzarra broke away from the ethnic mold he’s been spinning the last few seasons, with a fall collection that was supercharged with ’80s sex. Shiny white boots, a slit skirt, and a significantly sultry jacket exemplify his mood for next season.
