The Daily Beast has won two Excellence in Journalism awards from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, the organization announced on Monday. Senior Editor Tim Teeman won the Excellence in Profile Writing award for his story about comedian Bob Smith’s battle with ALS, and contributing columnist Jay Michaelson won the Excellence in News Writing award for his column about a Republican religious freedom law. “We are thrilled each year by the work that is nominated for NLGJA’s Excellence in Journalism Awards, and this year was no different,” NLGJA President Jen Christensen said on Monday. “All of the award recipients are doing their fair share to advance NLGJA’s mission of promoting fair and accurate LGBTQ coverage, and it is our privilege to recognize their outstanding work.”
