On the surface, Game of Thrones couldn’t be less like Rob Reiner’s 1987 fantasy classic The Princess Bride. Where Thrones’ blood and sex redefines the idea of “hard fantasy,” Princess Bride is a sweet and charming family film. However, when put together, it’s seamless.
Using Princess Bride’s wraparound story featuring Peter Falk and Fred Savage, this clip reimagines the grandfather’s book about fencing, fighting, revenge and true love as a throat-slitting, head-crushing, arrow-shooting bloodbath. It also brings full circle the suggestion that Prince Oberyn is a variation on Inigo Montoya.
Be warned: there’s graphic violence and sex aplenty, as well as massive spoilers for Game of Thrones.
