OUT OF CARDS

‘The Interview’ Lost Sony $30 Million

According to the National Association of Theater Owners, Sony will lose around $30 million on The Interview. It also said the movie’s release in cinemas and VOD does not mark a paradigm shift, despite “starry-eyed” predictions to the contrary. “In this simultaneous-release game, Sony is $30 million in the hole and almost out of cards,” Patrick Corcoran, vice president of NATO, wrote in a column for Boxoffice Magazine. “The only game changed here as just how much Sony left on the table.”
