Five new releases were no match for Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters this Christmas weekend, as the latest installment in the saga held on to its No. 1 spot for the second weekend in a row. The space adventure, starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Mark Hamill, brought in an estimated $68.5 million in North American ticket sales over the holiday weekend. The film, which picks up after the events in The Force Awakens, also features the late Carrie Fisher in her final role as Princess Leia. Sony Corp.’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle trailed behind with $34 million to take second place. The musical comedy Pitch Perfect 3, the final film in a trilogy about an all-female a capella team, opened with $20.5 million to place in third place. Matt Damon’s Downsizing failed to break into the top three, with $4.6 million in its opening weekend.
