The Master of Movie Trailers Dies

Hal Douglas, the voice of hundreds of movie trailers, passed away on March 7 at the age of 89, Variety reported Thursday. Douglas was well known for starting the trailers with the trademark phrase “In a world….” Some of his most famous film trailers were for Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, and Lethal Weapon. Douglas served three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and studied acting at the University of Miami. After moving to New York to pursue an acting career, he ended up getting work on radio and TV doing voiceovers. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 43 years, and two sons.
