Hey, the oil spill wasn’t that bad! Take it from The Daily Mail’s David Jones: His recent tour of the Gulf region, he says, was “an enjoyable sea-nature tour.” He writes, “Journeying from Florida, through Alabama to the vast, swampy bays of southern Louisiana, however, what struck me most forcibly was that everything looked so normal.” The backlash against BP seems to have struck a nationalist nerve in Jones, who wonders, “Why was one of Britain’s greatest companies so demonized?” Jones, who previously worked as a reporter covering the Exxon Valdez spill, says President Obama chose to blame BP for the disaster because “he needed to find a scapegoat.” He concludes, “If he had heard the pathetic cries of dying otters and seabirds in Alaska two decades ago, perhaps he would have chosen his words more carefully.”
