More than a decade after he ended the popular HBO series with a hard cut to black, David Chase is returning to the world of The Sopranos with a prequel film titled The Many Saints of Newark. The showrunner’s new screenplay, which has been purchased by New Line Cinema, is reportedly set during the Newark riots of the 1960s. According to Deadline, “Some of the beloved characters from the series will appear in the film,” though Chase would not confirm which ones. “David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film,” Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.
