Testimony from top military officials to the Senate Armed Services Committee reveals that Iran may be within one year of producing fuel with the potential to power a bomb, and that the country is two to five years from creating a working nuclear bomb from that fuel. This estimate is consistent with a 2007 report that stated that Iran could successfully manufacture nukes between 2010 and 2015. A few hours before the hearing, the head of Iran's nuclear program announced that the nation had enriched 11 pounds of uranium to produce fuel that could almost be categorized as "highly enriched" (most weapons are made with 90 percent or more enriched fuel).
