Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on The Voice, died early Saturday after she was shot at her Orlando concert Friday night. The 22-year-old singer had been signing autographs after her show when a man walked up and shot her in the head before fatally shooting himself. After initially being rushed to the hospital and described as in critical condition, Grimmie’s publicist announced early Saturday that she didn’t make it. Grimmie came in third place on the popular TV show in 2014, and had gained a massive following with her YouTube videos even before her participation in the show. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
The shooter was later identified as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, of St. Petersburg. It is unclear what relation, if any, he had to the singer.
