Award-winning composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has passed away in Berlin at the age of 48, his manager confirmed Saturday. The cause of death was not immediately known. The Icelandic composer, writer, and producer has had a prolific career composing his own solo works as well as scores for major films like Arrival, Sicario, and The Theory of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe. Renowned for combining electronics with classical orchestrations, Jóhannsson picked up a handful of Grammy and Oscar nominations for his film scores, while also composing music for theater, dance, and television. Tim Husom, Jóhannsson’s manager, released a statement Saturday lamenting the loss of “one of the most talented musicians and intelligent people I knew.”
