Following a searing Ronan Farrow essay published in The Hollywood Reporter about Woody Allen’s alleged history of sexual assault, the magazine was banned from an event with the director at the Cannes Film Festival. Farrow, Allen’s son, wrote hat this estranged father was a “predator” and has been given a pass by the media and Hollywood in general. Allen avoided nearly all questions about the piece at Cannes, adding that he’s said “said all I have to say” about it and has no plans to read his son’s writing. “Woody’s publicist banned THR from a lunch for his movie in retaliation for publishing the Farrow piece,” said Matthew Belloni, an executive editor at the publication. “Which is a bit ironic considering Farrow’s argument centered on how Allen’s PR machine tries to manipulate media with tactics like denying access.”
