Three people were killed after a truck collided with a Manhattan-bound Long Island Rail Road train, News 12 Long Island reports. The 6:36 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma reportedly hit the truck near Westbury station at the School Street crossing after 7 p.m. Several LIRR lines were reportedly suspended as emergency response teams rushed to the scene. Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told reporters that the truck likely tried to beat the train at a crossing, which he said had a guard lowered. After the train crashed into the truck, the train derailed and slammed into the platform, he said. All three individuals in the truck reportedly died, and only minor injuries were reported among the train's approximately 200 passengers. Passengers told the local news station they heard an “explosion” and saw “fireballs” at the time of the crash.
